Not to mention the price tag of these “special editions”!!!

Yes!!! They could’ve collabed with bookish artists to include illustrations from the story and not just have them do the covers

I love colored pages/edges but I understand they’re not special editions. To me a special edition is illustrative and has something extra to oomph it up and make it worth the costly price. Sprayed paperbacks shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg just cause the edge is purple.

OVER SATURATION OF SPECIAL EDITIONS MAKE THEM REGULAR. I'VE BEEN SAYING THIS. Special editions should be coming out on a 5 year anniversary AT MINIMUM, and I'm saying 5 LOOSELY! a SE should be to give fans something new and reignite the love for the book!!!!

So I accidentally made a special edition? I added 2 bonus chapters plus character dossiers I took my old web series and made it a novel after 2 years of heavy edits. Full Moon King Vol 1 Raven Diamond free on KU so I ain’t even charging for the special edition.

If the paper isn’t PREMIUM, the pages aren’t SEWN?? It isn’t special.

It’s the newest form of overconsumption. Corporations know exactly who to target. This is just the newest “trend” and landfill/charity shops will be full of books in the next few years. I’m not knocking people who have got into reading but for a lot of people it’s just the latest passing trend and fomo is pushing this

For real!! Special editions should have like a cut chapter, annotated drafts, or at the very least some illustrations of some scenes smh!!!! You hit the nail on the head

One of my office mates legitimately told me they would pay more for books NOT to have any kind of sprayed edges; they’re not a fan.

Hard agree! I only buy a special edition if it’s 1 - a 5 star read for me and 2 - if there are illustrations.

I don’t really like special editions. I feel like it’s the companies way to bring over consumerism to the bookish community and to get more money. Same way that they are only releasing in hardback first now. They just want more money. I’m not falling for it. 🤷
