I WILL finish the book I’m not enjoying so I CAN give it a scathing review and that’s that

depending on reasoning for reading a book i agree with you but I fear life is too short to spend so much time reading a book youre not enjoying

the concept of guilt tripping people for wanting to enjoy the little free time they have in this miserable time period

So far I’ve never regretted dnfing a book. I have regretted finishing a book. I normally will when I don’t like it, not really if I’m bored

i’ll finish a book so my opinion actually is justifiable. i can’t critique a book i haven’t even read

I also think this is why a lot of newer releases will have an overwhelming amount of positive reviews. Mostly the people who love it will finish it and share thoughts. At least I feel this is the case with a book I DNFed this year which I wish I had finished and reviewed

I do believe it’s a skill to be detached from the writing long enough to get through and analyze it, it’s absolutely fine to read solely for pleasure but variety makes a better reader

I have to finish the books that I don't enjoy so I can fully enter in my hater mode (happens every time I try to read Haruki Murakami)

My time on earth isn't infinite, I'll dnf freely if a book isn't bringing me any form of joy or fulfilment. That's not on my attention span though, I have adhd and still managed to push through Brothers Karamazov because I knew it would be worth it in the end

DNFing took me so long to really do and I’m so glad I do it now. But for me I DNF if the writing is atrocious so I think we’re talking about two different things lol. I never DNF if it’s “boring”

I can never dnf books. Since I already bought it I’ll finish it even if I hate it. It’s the same as walking out of movies

I disagree! I don’t think your audience is the type to give up because something is challenging, so I think something being unenjoyable is more than enough reason to dnf. If you were, for instance, a romantasy-focused creator, then sure, I see your point lol

Short attention span for something you don't enjoy is nothing new, most people will stop doing something they don't like unless they're forced to do it, and that's fine. I've finished many books I didn't enjoy and even if I understand their literary significance, they never really left a deep impression. I'll forget even the important and interesting parts if most of the book is boring, so I don't really see the worth is forcing my way through a book just to be able to say I finished it.
