@chrisexleymoneygeek: Child benefit on £120k household income. It is possible. But not as a single earner. The system doesn’t adequately support single parents imo. If they are paying more tax, they should be entitled to get child benefit. The money is for the child, not the parents

So what? They pay massive taxes why shouldn’t they get it?

taxes should be based on household income, not the highest earner

They pay a lot back via self assessment (if they're honest or don't get caught out) and what you claim and what you get in the long run isn't really the same

The child benefit system is just horrendous. The unfairnesses in it are astounding and unacceptable.

We had to open a new pension for my husband and pay money into it, to reduce his ANI, we are also eagerly awaiting a salary sacrifice car scheme but his work have not commissioned this yet.

The system really pisses me off the wife never worked for the first six years because of the cost of childcare I was over the 60,000 threshold back in the day then I went over the hundred yet she only earns 10k but like you say two couples can earn 60k each it should be done on the house income not the individual

I had knew a ADR HGV driver he had to cut his days working because he was scared him and his partner would tip over 120k if he kept working contracted hours

Based on the highest earner is not fair. A couple earning 60k each get full entitlement and a single income family on 80k get nothing.....so wrong.

An odious change by George Osborne. A well loved universal benefit blown apart for little gain and a lot of unfairness
