🚨YAYO SCHEDULED FOR EUTHANASIA 6/20 @ 11AM🚨 Yayo is one of the saddest dogs in the shelter. His owner surrendered him after reporting that Yayo had killed another pet in the home & “could not be kept contained,” frequently roaming the streets. The owner stated they were moving & feared future injury to another animal. They failed him. The dog volunteers know today is not a dog charging at people or looking for trouble. He is a frightened, shut-down boy who seems overwhelmed by shelter life. Yayo quietly retreats into himself. He is gentle, sensitive, & very fearful. When meeting new people, Yayo prefers to take things slowly. He avoids eye contact & keeps his distance at first, but he has shown a desire to trust. One volunteer spent time sitting quietly in his kennel, tossing treats & giving him space. Slowly, Yayo began approaching, gently taking treats before retreating back to where he felt safe. He showed no aggression.. only fear & stress. Recently, Yayo went on a daycation, & it showed just how different he can be outside the shelter. In a calm apartment setting, he spent hours sleeping, relaxing, & slowly exploring his surroundings. He loved lying outside listening to birds & wind, & his biggest smile of the day was during a car ride with his head out the window. The volunteer described him as a sweet, quiet dog who appreciates gentle affection, calm voices, & being allowed to move at his own pace. He showed no interest in bothering a resident cat & ignored distant dogs. Loud noises startled him. Yayo desperately needs a quiet, low-traffic environment where he can feel safe. The shelter is taking a toll on this sensitive boy. Despite that, volunteers continue to see glimpses of the dog he could become once he is given stability & time to decompress. Help find him a hero! ⸻ Yayo #A1284423 Male (DAS will fix), ~3 years, 48 lbs HW+ (DAS treats), vaxxed, microchipped, on prevention 📍Dallas Animal Services 1818 N Westmoreland Rd, Dallas, TX 📩 Email ASAP with a callback # & subject: “URGENT — Yayo #A1284423” Adopt (fee waived): dasadopt@dallas.gov Shelter Foster (local): dasfoster@dallas.gov Rescue Tag: dasrescue@dallas.gov ‼️The Dogs Need Our Help is a 1 volunteer-run networking page‼️
