There are some nights that do not feel like nights. They feel like a lifetime. This poem feels like the voice of Zaynab (as) in the darkness after Karbala – when the tents were no longer filled with the voices of her brothers, her nephews, and the children she once protected. A night where every hour became heavier, every breath carried grief, and every silence reminded her of who was no longer there. “Oh night, stretch out your hours…” Because sometimes the night is painful, but the morning is even harder. The night hides the tears. The night covers the broken heart. The night gives the grieving soul a place to fall apart. But for Zaynab (as), even the night could not protect her from what came next. She had just watched her world get taken from her, and now she had to stand between the enemies and the remaining family of Hussain (as). She had to carry the children, the widows, the pain, the message, and the dignity of Karbala – all while her own heart was shattered. That is what makes Zaynab (as) so powerful. She was not strong because she did not feel pain. She was strong because she felt every wound, every loss, every heartbreak – and still stood up. And maybe that is why so many hearts relate to her. Because all of us know what it feels like to lose something we thought we could never live without. All of us know nights where we ask time to slow down because we are afraid of what tomorrow will bring. All of us know what it feels like to smile while carrying something heavy inside. But Zaynab (as) teaches us that grief does not mean weakness. Sometimes the most broken heart is the one Allah chooses to carry the greatest message. Peace be upon the heart that lost everything, yet never lost its faith. Peace be upon Zaynab. 🥀 #islam #History #poetry
