I think Effie doesn’t have preferred male tribute per se. She knows they are both going to volunteer. I saw it as frustration at the end of tension. There was no “good” draw either way, just the foreknowledge of what was coming next being revealed.

I always took Banks’ performance as being devastated to call Haymitch because she knew that Peeta would volunteer in his place, but this is a great read. Just the dread of knowing there’s no clean ending here and then the devastation of watching a particular outcome crystallize

i never interpreted that moment as relief. she stumbles over his name like she doesnt want to say it but is also smiling (for the camera.) She also stumbles over Peeta’s name because in her mind Katniss will win or no one from 12.

I really feel like Suzanne Collins used the acting in the movies to write this book. I think the actors had to make their headcanons to influence their acting, and I think SC used that to fuel her fire. because there was almost nothing ADDED by the movie that she didn't put to damn good use unless it JUST couldn't fit. like I don't think she let it contradict her story, but I think she did a beautiful job of writing books that translated well to film and a beautiful job of tying those films back into the books. I mean really. there isn't a single sigh, smirk, or grimace made by these "elder characters" in the trilogy that doesn't carry DEEEEEP meaning after this damn book
