for fictkins who believe they were that character in a past life, it mostly ties to the multiverse theory where there are an infinite number of universes, which include ones where fictional characters are real people. as a fictionkin tho im not a spiritual one, its just like a mental thing for me. my brain is kind of weird and referring to myself as characters just feels right to me. And this “new” definition has been here longer than the kinnies definition has. id assume fictionkin has been a term since the late 2000s-early 2010s. I know the predecessor term, otakukin, has been around since at least 2001 though

You actually described a fictionkin - the first one is basically just being a major character kinnie. It's always being so connected to a character you believe you're the same person, for lack of a better explanation. The ones who believe they're a character reincarnate, it all ties into beliefs. The multiverse theory is one I see thrown around a lot and I happen to believe in it myself, souls get tossed around universes and bodies until they want to rest or something, every universe is real, even fictional ones. All stories have been wrote before, yadayadayada. there's no need to be hateful to somebody living their life :]

hihi! im a past life fictionkin! the characters that i was are not real in this universe, obviously. they are completely fictional here. in another universe though? thats a whole ‘nother story. multiversal reincarnation is NOT a wild concept to understand, even if YOU dont believe in it. also, fictionkin has NEVER meant “i relate so much to this character”. it started out as otakukin in, i believe, the 1990’s and changed to fictionkin in either 2004 or 2007, i cant recall right now. it has always, as long as it has existed, meant “i am this character is a psychological, spiritual, physical, etc way”. there is no “twisting the definition” because that IS the definition.

This is super loud and wrong, nobody is "twisting" any sort of definition, the spiritual aspect has always been a thing since early 2000s, labeled as "otakukin" instead and was purposely TO describe the spiritual aspect of it. The belief can even go farther back to the 1990s when fictionkinning was first ever created. It's always been tied to fictionkins, and it's not at all impossible to be a fictional character. Literally just take two valid and very popular beliefs, reincarnation and the multiverse, and put two and two together. It's that simple. You're just reincarnating from another multiverse, another dimension. Literally these two are such popular beliefs but you guys act like it's so insane when it's combined, get a grip. And if you ask "How can someone be a character that just came out?", again, MULTIVERSE!! Time flows differently, there's universes where anything exists and could've just been created in our own just now, yet has existed always outside of our world, anything exists. It's always "respect beliefs" until it's one you don't like.
