A planet is illuminated by the sun fully in one part; imagine the sun as a circle projecting light onto another circle. It perfectly is possible that a sun 93 million miles away can project light onto us, its basic logic really, it’s why the sun illuminates the earth in one side (this is simplified but it applies seamlessly to spheres because they’re effectively just infinite stacks of 2D circles) wholely in the first place. Yet if each light beam from the sun illuminated the whole planet, we’d expect to see all light fully take place in light rays, they don’t, so we can say that there’s something environmental about the rays. First off, the visible rays we see are actually parallel to eachother, originating from the sun of course. The rays themselves are created by gaps in the sky, such as clouds, allowing for more concentrated forms of light. If you traveled up to the clouds you’d simply holes within the clouds through which light goes through. Beyond the cloud it simply appears as light from a light bulb does, originating in the sun. It’s correct that the rays don’t really come from 93 millions miles away; they come from clouds blocking sun, but that doesn’t mean the sun cant be 93 million miles away.

Everyone saying refraction of light, that's a very basic concept but it's not even that deep. It's just perspective. You'd see virtually the same thing if the source were 1,000 miles away, 100 million miles away, or 100 trillion miles away (provided intensity was high enough to reach us).
