In my opinion, that is what makes the storyline with Claudia (in the TV show version) so much more devastating. All he wanted was a family again. People he could provide for and love. Now that we've seen Lestat's family life as a human (partially), we can start to see the pieces falling onto place with how each of them view, or do not view, how love and family should be experienced and shared.
