@girlaboutmelb: Once a year, this Melbourne omakase turns dinner into a live tuna show! 🐟 Sushi Sho is a fine dining Japanese omakase restaurant located on Little Bourke Street in Melbourne. Once a year during Bluefin Tuna season they host their Tuna Kaitai Show, a traditional whole tuna cutting ceremony paired with a multi course menu built around different tuna preparations. It’s a slightly more energetic format than their usual omakase and gives guests the chance to see the full breakdown process in person. This year’s event featured a 40kg tuna broken down by a Tuna Master alongside their Executive Chef Toaki, with counter seating surrounding the action. There was also a live bidding auction for premium cuts and we ended up buying a huge piece of toro which they prepared and cooked for us (it was incredible!) in addition to the menu. ✔️ Dry-Aged Tuna with Chive & Shiso on a Crisp Nori Cracker
➖ Seasonal Oyster with Tosazu Jelly - too big for me
⭐️ Maguro (Four Cuts of Fresh Tuna with Caviar & Nori Sauce) - loved being able to compare the different cuts
➖ Hotate Osuimono (Scallop Clear Broth with Mitsuba & Seasonal Mushroom)
⭐️ Maguro Katsu (Aged Tuna Cutlet with Yuzu-Kosho Sumiso & Garden Salad) - unexpectedly one of my favourites
✔️ Toro Steak (Japanese Bluefin Belly with Truffle, Kimizu & Grated Daikon) - incredible cooked and not what we expected
⭐️ Maguro Nigiri (Five Pieces of Tuna: Fresh, Aged & Japanese Bluefin) - standout of the night
➖ Monaka We sat front and centre at the bar which made it really fun to watch unfold. One thing to note though - the evening ran around an hour behind schedule and food didn’t start coming out for about an hour. 😅 This event is normally only held once a year but due to demand they’ve opened two additional sessions, 1st of July is already sold out, tickets are still available for the 8th July at $219pp. 🏃♀️ Invite
