Yes, BUT: the motivation for their betrayal must still be believable! Otherwise it's just bad writing. Barty Crouch in Harry Potter 5 is such an example. Just no.

Actually i disagree. People always see the plot twist of the traitor coming BECAUSE it’s always the one you “wouldn’t expect.” such as the one who helps you or the one who questions things first. what’s more trusting is when that character is in the background but not enough to be invisible either. like always there but not in the spotlight or in the shadows

Ok think about it… the first time an author had the secret traitor character go “trust no one… not even me” and then later after the betrayal go “did I not tell you?” ts had to have people quaking. Overdone now, but every trope had to start somewhere

In my case, when I hear them pointing out something dangerous before anybody, I ask why does he know that? How did he know before anybody? So my attention focus on them and I find many flaws. That's why I can't watch detective or series of drama because I get to know their personalities beforehand 😔 And my mom kicks me out of the room so I don't make spoilers for her when she watches her series😅 But for whoever needs it, their eyes say a lot about their thoughts.
