It’s not just another day off. It’s a day to support black lives and study black history. Also a good time to continuing the fight for equity

I just try to go to a black owned business or two as much as I can afford it (I always try to but I just don't have money to spend usually but will spend my last $5 on juneteenth to make sure it's going to a local black owned business) if I had friends and was invited to a juneteenth celebration, I'd definitely go and have fun but I just don't really have friends (it's hard in this society) my town just starting doing a juneteenth parade though so I'll be going to that whenever I can but I usually gotta work I don't get time off that I can choose

You’re totally right! During Juneteenth I was on a 3 day trip so I unfortunately did not do much. I just got home a few hours ago. I know 10 dollars is not much, but I hope it brings you joy. I hope you had a great Juneteenth!

we have a lesson with the kids on Juneteenth about black history in some way. I also make it a point to buy at least something from a black owned business or black author, even when my budget is small.

The difference for me personally has been the difference in my financial situation honestly. In those earlier years you're talking about I was a highschooler with a decent job and disposable income so I would spend money on small black businesses and send money to black creators that I wanted to support. Now I am a young adult who is unwillingly unemployed, kicked out of my parents house, and doing what I can to avoid homelessness. I wish I could celebrate the same I have in the past but my situation leaves me unable to financially support black creators and businesses like I want to anymore. I still try to boost and engage with the videos of black creators I care about whenever I see them and specifically seek their videos out to do this on Juneteenth since I'm no longer in a position to financially support them. Obviously this isn't gonna be the case for all people and I'm not trying to say this is some excuse for the disturbing trend of this happening or even myself, just figured I'd share my personal experience with it all

Every Juneteenth I spend a good portion of my disposable income on my favorite black-owned small businesses, and encourage my fellow mayonaisians to do the same. Only downside is by now, the list of these businesses I am a fond of is quite long so I'm gonna have to do 2 separate sprees. (Drop your favorite Black-owned business below so we can keep these lists growing 🥰)

my little girl and I read a bunch of books about important black women in hisotry. theres also some good shows for kids that talk about black issues. it was a good time and fun to watch her learn and be engaged.

Pause. I was like 10 in 2021. I thought Juneteenth was from the Civil Rights era? For Juneteenth I kinda didn't know what to do besides just listen to black folk online talk about it's history & educate myself.

Wait so ok I didn’t get it off(idk y maybe my job is weird or smthng lol) but besides like you said studying black history through media from black perspectives, along with donating to or at the very least supporting black content creators(I’m broke so I can at least watch and like😭) is there any way we should be celebrating? I looked it up very briefly prior to the holiday and the consensus was white ppl should not be celebrating the holiday and let black people celebrate it, but we should just support the people celebrating. In the future are we expected to go to parties/celebrate it in the traditional sense in some way, or is quiet study a better and more effective way to perceive this holiday?

I’m only commenting to push her video out further. I really don’t have much of a voice here because I am white so I’m going to speak on my fiancé‘s behalf and he doesn’t really do social media. He hates it, but I feel though this needs to be voiced, especially for those that are black, but are not able to have the day off such as my fiancé he is a blue-collar worker. He only gets the main federal holidays off such as memorial Day, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Fourth of July and I think that’s messed up. He doesn’t get the option for time and a half even knowing as a federally recognize holiday for those of color, especially for those of black or African descent and he still doesn’t have the right to have that day taken off or to receive time and a half and I believe something needs to be done about it and unfortunately, I cannot do anything. Unfortunately he can’t do anything because if he does, there’s a huge chance he could get fired and because the town that we live in is racist there’s also a huge chance he’ll be considered blacklisted.
