Y‑You killed L‑Lisa in the st‑ory!” Her wife said “Hon, it’s just a story,” She tried to comfort her. “Still! You shouldn’t have done that! It made Jennie cry… and me too!” Ruby said, lightly smacking her wife’s chest. Pranpiya tried not to laugh but failed. Ruby pulled back and glared. “You’re laughing!” “I’m not,” Pranpiya mumbled, pressing her lips shut. “You are!” Ruby pouted, eyes still wet. Pranpiya burst out laughing, still holding her waist. “Oh my god, honey this is the fifth time you’ve cried today!” “All because of the stories you write, dork!” Ruby shot back. “Hon, I told you to stop reading them. You’re four months pregnant and super emotional,” Pranpiya said softly. “Remember yesterday? You cried because a baby ant got separated from its mom in that cartoon?” “The baby ant was crying!” Ruby said dramatically, clutching her chest. “It’s just a movie.” “I felt her pain!” Pranpiya shook her head, smiling. “You little crybaby.” She pinched her nose. Ruby grinned. “But you love me.” “Definitely.” Pranpiya kissed her lips. Ruby’s face lit up, and her smile widened. Pranpiya immediately noticed. “Oh no…” she said, sitting back in the chair. “Oh yes!” Ruby clapped her hands. “Honnnnnn…” Ruby whined, plopping right onto Pranpiya’s lap. “No,” Pranpiya said firmly, holding her waist. “I didn’t even say anything yet!” Ruby stomped her feet playfully. Pranpiya sighed. “Fine… what does my princess want?” Ruby held her chin like she was thinking hard. “Hmm… I want a crocodile!” “A what?!” “A crocodile!” “Nope! Absolutely not! We are not getting a crocodile!” Ruby pouted. “How about a snake?” She looked up with big puppy eyes. “Nope. No snakes either.” Ruby looked down, shook her shoulders, and pretended to cry again. Pranpiya gave in. “How about a hamster? They’re cute, just like you.” Ruby’s head popped right up, face glowing with that gummy smile. “Yes! Let’s get two!” She grabbed the back of Pranpiya’s neck excitedly. Pranpiya just shook her head, already knowing there was more coming. “Two? Okay, two hamsters. Nothing else, okay?” Ruby nodded fast — but only for two seconds. “And… a big cage! And a little wheel! And soft bedding! And those colorful treats they eat!” She listed everything off like she’d planned it all along. “You really thought this through, didn’t you?” Pranpiya laughed. “Of course! And they need names!” Ruby said, tapping her chin again. “One is Jennie and the other is Lisa!” Pranpiya nearly choked. “You’re naming them after the characters from the story you just cried over?” Ruby beamed. “Yes! They’re gonna be happy here, no one dies in this house!” Later that afternoon, they came home with their new little pets. Ruby sat on the couch, watching them run around, cooing like they were the most precious things in the world. “Look, honey! They’re holding paws!” she gasped, pointing. Pranpiya sat beside her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. “They’re just standing next to each other, baby.” “No, look! They love each other!” Ruby insisted, then suddenly sniffled again. “Aww… they’re so cute… I’m gonna cry!” Pranpiya pulled her close, laughing softly as Ruby wiped happy tears from her eyes. “You are the silliest, most dramatic woman I’ve ever met.” Ruby snuggled into her side, one hand resting on her belly. “But you love me anyway.” “More than anything,” Pranpiya whispered, kissing her forehead. “And I’ll get you every little thing you want just please, no more crocodiles or snakes. Deal?” Ruby giggled and nodded. “Deal.
