@bonifaciojomio: While removing an injected Crown-of-Thorns Starfish, I discovered extensive fresh tissue loss on this hard coral colony, likely caused by COTS feeding. The bright white area is exposed coral skeleton where living tissue has recently been consumed. It’s heartbreaking because nature had a solution: the Giant Triton snail, which hunts them. But humans over-collected these snails for souvenirs, and now they are too rare and nearly impossible to breed in labs. Without their natural predator, teams have to remove the starfish manually to save the new corals!
