As someone who carries the weight of addiction recovery on my shoulders every day, I’ve learned that I need to be extremely mindful of where my thoughts are heading. Sometimes all it takes is one bad decision, one moment of desperation, or one attempt to escape what I’m feeling to put myself on a path that I never know how long it’ll take me to come back from. When stress, anxiety, overwhelm and self-doubt start piling up, I’ve found that one thing helps me get my bearings again. Gratitude. Not the cliché kind. I mean finding a quiet place and deliberately speaking out loud the things I’m grateful for. My family. My friends. My health. My faith. A roof over my head. The simple things that are easy to overlook when life gets noisy. It doesn’t magically solve my problems, but it brings me back down to earth. It helps me reset and reminds me that even in difficult seasons, there is still so much to be thankful for. I thought I’d share this because maybe someone else out there needs the reminder today too. my gratefulness is the fact that we live so damn well here compared to the rest of the planet, ive traveled a lot and seen the absolute despair and poverty most other countries go through on the daily without basics like hot water or plumbing and that keeps me insanely grounded and grateful for my lot in life
