“Come break dogs with me in 100° weather.” 😂 When people think about dog training, they usually picture the lessons, behavior modification, off-leash work, or before & after transformations. What they don’t see is this. In between training sessions, client calls, virtual consultations, and everything else that comes with running a business, I’m out here doing potty rotations 3-4 times a day for every dog in my care. This is the current crew of dogs here for boarding and board & train. Some are here for basic obedience, some are here for serious behavioral work, and some need a little more time and management than others. No matter why they’re here, they all get time to get out, stretch their legs, use the bathroom, decompress, and just be dogs. Days like today are a good reminder that dog care isn’t just about training. It’s about paying attention. 100 degree heat can become dangerous fast, especially for certain breeds, ages, and personalities. Knowing how to read a dog’s body language, recognize the early signs of heat stress, and adjust accordingly is just as important as teaching a sit or down. The reality is that a lot of dog training is repetitive. It’s cleaning, walking, rotating dogs, managing schedules, and doing the little things consistently every single day. But somewhere in that repetition, you build relationships. You learn each dog’s quirks, personalities, and routines. And honestly, that’s one of my favorite parts of the job. Most people see the finished product. The calm walk. The obedience. The transformation. What they don’t see are the hundreds of small moments that make it possible.
