This might come as a surprise to you… But of all the messages I get the most common is this: “how do you deal with unrequited love?” “How do I forget the person I love who doesn’t love me back?” And many, many variations of these. When I was younger, this was something I also struggled with. Growing up, I thought how I was treated was indicative of my worth. So if I was treated poorly, I thought perhaps I deserved it. I believed truly with all my heart that how people saw me (or didn’t) was reflective of me and my value as a human. It’s only when you get older you realise, the way you are treated is never a reflection of you, but of others. And the way you treat others is never reflective of them on the receiving end, but on you the giver. We are defined not by the things that happen to us, but by the things we choose to be and do. In many ways I can also see where people struggle with knowing what their purpose is in life. There is a similar overlap, that what we are born into, what we receive, these are the things that describe our futures. But you are the love you give, NOT the love you receive or don’t. So if you love someone who doesn’t love you back, that’s okay. You can water a garden as much as you like but if the flowers don’t grow, don’t blame your water. Your heart is a wellspring from which all things come, this is your lot in life. Don’t ever dim your own fire simply because someone wishes to stay cold. And don’t be offended by that either, some people aren’t ready for what you have - don’t force it. Keep tending to yourself, the right recipient will come along. Don’t become bitter, don’t regret it. #mrskelly #art #relationships #regret #Love
