I constantly follow people by accident. That plus button is right where I put my thumb when I’m scrolling. Tons of people show up in my following that I didn’t purposefully follow. There’s nothing suspicious about it; I catch it happening so often that the only likely explanation is I didn’t notice while I was scrolling away.

I firmly believe that everyone in the comments saying this isn’t true is a bot account. If you’re following someone you intentionally unfollowed or once blocked please change your passwords. This is basic internet safety.

I really think it's just that the follow button is so easy to hit on anyone's video. There's no confirmation, just a tiny plus that turns into a check. Just trying to speed up a video, like it, view comments, etc. you can really easily hit it. Happens to me all the time, and only sometimes do I notice it.

I never reuse passwords, I have authenticator apps or a physical passkey, I also change my password every six months, and use a password manager. All of my passwords are random, like a random set of characters, numbers and symbols. I haven’t been hacked in years because of this.
