Tanrak choosing God over Barth is very understandable because that was his choice and goal from the beginning. But of course, it is kind of selfish because when you lean on someone and set your heart on them, you make them commit and take risks just to be with you, only for them to find out that you chose your God over them. There is grief, anger, and, most importantly, relief.

Life in faith can be such a double sword. God sees all. So even tho he decides not to be with Barth his feelings for him will have to be suppressed. And God can see that meaning that they are still there so either way the heart is divided and God can see that. But you can love both. Because you can't love them the same way. My opinion
