You may not like HRH King Asari Dokubo neither do I due to his inconsistencies in most issues but when it comes to his records in IYC and most of his stance about the Ijaw interest just like his speech here, he is always consistent. The truth is or in my opinion, Dr. Chris Ekiyor was arguably the last truly impactful President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC). Since his tenure, those after him have largely been perceived to be more transactional presidents who prioritized personal gain over the collective interests and advancement of the Ijaw Nation. Rather than using the platform to champion the aspirations of the Ijaw people, they appeared more focused on enriching themselves and pursuing individual ambitions. The current president, for instance, projected himself more as a diplomat than as IYC president. At several critical moments when the Ijaw Nation expected strong leadership and advocacy on the ground, he was frequently seen in New York City, leaving me with no option but to question his priorities, and commitment during some of the most defining periods of his tenure leaving Professor Benjamin Ogele Okaba, the President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) to do most of the things expected of him.
