I dont remember why i know this but apparently Gene Rodenberry, when casting Capt Kirk, considered Shatner bc of his work playing Alexander! the same gene rodenberry who then wrote into the novelization of star trek:the motion picture the vulcan concept of "t'hy'la" to describe the relationship between Jim and Spock, defining it as "brother, lover, friend"-- then got mad when everyone was like....ok so they are in love and they're soulmates?! ANYWAY

I've never questioned whether or not it was romantic just bc of the way Achilles reacts to his death. For a man who resents the conflict to begin with, it is SO intense. The way he treats Hector without honor is a crime of passion, not "justice", when Hector did nothing considered dishonorable.
