Yesterday I visited the East Valley Animal Shelter to meet some of their most overlooked, longterm residents. That was Kay. Unfortunately, Kay is currently housed in an area of the shelter that isn’t visible to the public, so I wasn’t able to meet her in person and that alone is heartbreaking. When a dog is considered urgent, it’s hard not to wonder why they’re placed somewhere adopters can’t even see them. 6 year old Kay has been here 365+ days. When I asked volunteers why she’s been overlooked for so long, there wasn’t a clear answer …because she’s a great dog. She’s incredibly people friendly, deeply loved by volunteers, and loves them right back. Her only barrier is that she’s been labeled dog aggressive. But after a year of confinement, little to no socialization, constant noise, stress, and isolation… behavioral struggles feel inevitable. These dogs aren’t broken, they’re overwhelmed. Kay is the most urgent dog at East Valley right now. If you have questions, I’ll tag the volunteers who know her best. Please consider coming to meet Kay.
