@history_art_philosophy: The Harvard Study of Adult Development tracked over 700 people for more than 80 years to find the real secret to a happy life. In their twenties almost everyone fell into the same trap: pouring all their energy into career, money, and status, assuming success equals happiness. But the strongest predictor of health and joy as you age isn’t your resume, it’s your relationships. They call it ‘social fitness.’ If you’re building a great career but letting your friendships slip, this is your reminder to rethink your priorities. #psychology #health #knowledgesharing #lesson #SelfImprovement
I can't help but wonder if the "trap" here is finding early financial security which affords much more agency in life. including the opportunity to worry less about money which would free up time which can be invested in finding meaningful interpersonal relationships...

social relationships are no different then chasing money , they require social currency, actual money, time and being attractive. its no different and even more exhausting cause of the constant disappointment

I think it's all about balance. You can get educated and have a career whilst also enjoying life and building good relationships. It doesn't have to be one or the other

There is nothing wrong with that. We don’t live in a utopia…we need money to create a life. That’s like saying people in their teens wasted their time studying and not partying. This take assumes you are doing this alone, when in fact you are locking in with work colleagues, that’s community, the same way college is a community when you are building for the future. Of course no one thinks success equals happiness, but you can’t design a great life without sacrificing time studying hard at high school, university and then building a career in your 20s. These takes are not useful to those that really need to create wealth…lock in and enjoy present moments, it’s really that simple.

I worked but partied all my 20's. Now we're 40 and settled down. We don't regret it at all, we enjoyed our youth.

i worked crazy shifts during my early 20s. it set up my finances and work experience well, but i stopped running factories at 25 (with a hefty pay cut) to focus on my social life. going 9-5 was the best decision i ever made. i always knew that i wasn’t going to be on shift forever, but it’s even more entrenched now i’ve got such amazing people in my life that i wouldn’t have found if i was still doing the hours i was going. obviously everyone is different and not everyone is able to take a cut in pay, but my advice would be to do so if you’re able.
