@thedonielle.elizab: Shining a Light on East St. Louis Later in the evening, the East St. Louis Senior High School Marching Band took center stage at the 7th Annual House of Soul Juneteenth Festival and reminded us exactly what hometown pride sounds like. For Nichol Stevenson, this was personal. A proud daughter of East St. Louis, she welcomed students from her hometown onto one of St. Louis’ most visible cultural stages not simply for a performance, but for a moment of recognition. Their presence carried discipline, precision, joy, culture, and the unmistakable spirit of a city that continues to produce brilliance. East St. Louis School District 189 describes the band as an ensemble rooted in passion, talent, musical excellence, and a rich tradition of inspiring local audiences. That legacy was felt all the way down Washington Avenue. We shine a light on these remarkable students and on the directors, staff, families, and school leaders whose steady investment makes moments like this possible. Because when young people are prepared, supported, and given the stage, they do not just perform. They lead. They inspire. They represent. East St. Louis, we see you. We honor you. And we are proud of you. 🖤
