1- no such thing as suddenly at 6 this change happens 2- intergenerational data and patterns and are powerful and govern dynamics more than lifetime conditioning (overall) 3- parents, others, schools are all pressure pots that our children absorb, respond to with what they have as cope to survive in

This is an amazing message for all genders. I wish her newspaper represented this with the same passion.

No it’s sooner. I’m a childminder (after 20 years as a primary teacher) and see 2-3 year olds saying these kinds of things.

as an early years teacher, and i did my masters dissertation on gender stereotypical play in early years, it happens WAY before 6. at age 3 I have children coming into nursery saying when I cut my hair "you are a boy, you have short hair" or if a boy has painted nails "boys dont wear nail varnish", we get the "girls cant play, we sre playing pirates, its boys only" etc etc. I once had a four year old girl ask me "whats your favourite princess?" and I replied "belle because shes very clever," and she replied "girls are pretty, not clever" (her mum was a uni lecturer too.... it was heartbreaking) kids pick these stereotypes and start policing them by the age of 3 and younger

Literally happened to me, I remember not having any of the stupid hangups around gender and how it crept in around year 6. Being told I was soft, a cry baby, that enjoying cooking, art, music, was gay and pathetic. I couldent stand football, did judo instead of tap dance which I really wanted to do. Had some really toxic opinions and behaviour as a teen. I always wonder what direction my life would have gone in if I’d had people actively challenging the idea that boys shouldn’t be a certain way

I was told by a female teaching assistant at 8 to "stop being such a big girls blouse" after telling her I'd hurt my wrist (I wasn't even crying)... I'd broken my ulna. My female head teacher also later told me I hadn't broken it, I think because I wasn't making a fuss, I think I'd have been taken more seriously if I was a girl and/or was crying my eyes out
