But it does not appear out of nowhere. It appears in the gap between what she took on and what he didn’t. In the sick days that defaulted to her. In the school pickups that were always hers to manage. In the mental load that never once redistributed itself. In the career she quietly dismantled, one concession at a time, while his continued uninterrupted. She did not step back. She was pushed by an unequal division of labour so normalised that we wrote it up as her choice.
