it's very simple... Chemical Engineering is the Avatar... master of all engineering elements😭😭

Chemical engineering was my dreamed course when I was in SS1. After secondary school one thing led to another & I ended up enrolling for PharmD, now I don finish.

The first thing my supervisor told me when I began to work in the industry was, “You are not a ‘chemical engineer’, you are a PROCESS ENGINEER” 😂

I guess in a way, traditionally chemical engineers would design processes and equipment in which substances undergo chemical and physical change at an industrial scale and the outputs from those processes were typically chemicals and hence the name. And process engineering is kind of like a subset of the field.

Chemical engineering is a mix of a number of things. Process Engineering is the closest descriptiom but it is beyond that. Thanks for your answers

The most complicated engineering course is chemical. Material & Energy balance, Calculus, thermodynamics and Process control

For me Chemical engineering is the central pivot of all engineering discipline. With the knowledge gained in chemical engineering, it qualifies you to be part of pilot test team for the erection of industrial plants. You also have knowledge about thermodynamics, material and energy balance, transfer phenomenon(heat and fluids dynamics), equipment designs, safety, process control & dynamics etc… which all put you together in better position to understand the transformation (scale up) of lab procedures into a cumbersome industrial plants. You’ll know how to find the cause root analysis relating to plants, troubleshoot and find solutions to technical issues. In fact, we are the brain behind industries. We use our knowledge gained in science to manufacture products in a safer manner to benefit the world. In the lab we function as Techs, QCs and with experience, rise to become managers or add up MBAs. In the gold mines, we function as metallurgist and rise to be process manger. We are also found in the pharmaceutical industry, oil and gas industries, food and beverage industries, aerospace industries, Paint factories etc.

These are two reasonable reasons why it shouldn't be limited to process engineering only. I'm a mechanical engineer though 😂.

As if thinking chemical engineering is chemistry is not enough. Now, when I say I'm a chemical engineering graduate, next thing, I must know how to paint. How?!!!!!!!😭😭😭😭

chemiCarl Engineer🇧🇼 :
the name Chemical Engineering is not misleading because it carries the original purpose the discipline was created for, which was to combat the problems that came with trying to upscale lab experiments, such as process stability and scalability. which makes sense because one of the very first prerequisites of chemical engineering modules is chemistry... the field isn't about chemistry, but about designing processes, optimising for efficiency, etc... and the name chemical engineering kinda like covers all these operations.
