So here’s my ordeal. I’m 49, highly sensitive empath. I intellectualize all my feelings. I can never remember feeling a feeling. Also, my stress lately is so high, I’m so overwhelmed my body is going into uncontrollable panic attacks now. How the heck do I “feel” an emotion? I’ve got to do something to move this through my body!

this is really great advice and very well explained, thank you. I realise I have been expanding my capacity a lot over the last few years and somatic therapy has really helped.

If a 4 year old came up to you scared and shaking with anxiety, many would embrace that child with compassion and love. Likewise, if you imagine that your trigger is a 4 year old boy or girl, it is easier to bring them into your space with compassion. This also can detach you from the intensity of the emotion.

Just as a little note for anyone beginning this journey- doing this kind of work really does retrain your brain and eventually the good patterns replace the old. I’ve experienced it in real time. I did a lot of work through my 20’s and now at 35 I just went through a big life changing loss and while I’m distraught I’m actually still regulating or functioning

distress tolerance and radical acceptance. I can hate this super uncomfortable feeling AND I can sit with this super uncomfortable feeling in this moment without needing to escape from it

For many people co-regulation is needed in the beginning, especially if you have trauma

So the whole practice is noticing the initial reaction, but than sitting with the reaction to the noticing? ie sitting with body after the initial reaction without leaving it?

This is the quickest way to get through a panic/anxiety attack. Wishing it to stop only keeps it around. Saying things out loud like “I don’t like feeling this pain, this hurts, this is uncomfortable” along with statements like “it’s ok to feel this pain, my body is doing what it is meant to do to process this, this wont go on forever and it will end, I am and will be ok, my body will feel better soon”. Validating what your mind and body is feeling and reminding yourself it’s for this moment only.

I wonder how this connects to neurodivergence coupled with childhood trauma. This video was helpful. I have been trying to work on this, but I’m finding as I’m coming out of dissociation and in tune with my nervous system sensory and everything becomes so much more present. I’m in a spoon deficits trying to go through this process.

Ok wow. I wrote every word down. It’s so clear, and at the same time hopeful. Rome wasn’t built in a day but it got there. Slow and steady wins the race. Thank you!

Have sat on this thought/comment for a few mins but it hasn’t changed: this is the best TikTok reel I’ve ever seen. Love the reframe, thanks!

it's really hard to be present with your body when you have chronic pain. I was really good at it before I started having chronic pain and now I just feel like it's masochistic.

Any thoughts on staying present in the body while suffering from chronic pain? I find I have to dissociate physically to stay functional, but it also makes it hard to distinguish between emotional and physical discomfort and sit in the former

This is a lot of information but going to try to listen to it repeatedly over time. But can we have a simpler version please? Thank you

So yesterday when I was so bored and texted a few people until one could go on an outing with me. What was this. Some sort of attachement thing and couldn’t sit with the fact I had no one. Also while listening to this I remember as kids I often called a friend to play with during the day so I wonder if there’s a connection there.

I stumbled across The Unbreakable Mind by Victor Kane when I was in the deepest depression I’ve ever had. I read it in three days because I couldn’t put it down. For the first time in years, I don’t feel completely alone with my pain.
