I'm not saying cussing itself makes us a "false Christian", it's more like... is it just our everyday way of communicating as a Christian? That's the real question! Because scripture is pretty clear on this. Ephesians 4:29 says "do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths" and the greek word there is "sapros" which literally means rotten and decayed. Then in Colossians 3:8 it says "rid yourselves of filthy language from your lips" and that greek word "aischrologia" means obscene and shameful speech. These words are not poetic, it's specific. Christians misuse and throw around James 3:9, I won't do that here... the greek word "kataraomai" was used in original scripture so that verse ain't about profanity 😁 but it's still a great section of scripture that paints the same picture. James 3:10 says "out of the same mouth come praise and cursing, my brothers and sisters this should not be" and that's about the double standard (ignore the word cursing, that is more like "cursing" someone's life not "cursing at them". But still a great parallel, the same mouth that worships God on Sunday is the same mouth running wild the rest of the week? The Christian mouth that is to stand apart from the World, sounding just like the world every day on the regular? We won't be perfect, this isn't about being perfect... it's about striving to be Holy and Perfect as Jesus was. WE WILL NEVER REACH THAT, but we are asked to TRY and when we believe the Gospel, WE WANT TO! As you saw in the video, even a secular platform says "Hey, there is no cussing in Gospel Music"... Is Gospel Music somehow different from regular speech? Should we not be consistent? You know what the Bible says about a Double-Minded person? They are unstable in all his ways 🤣 The Scriptures over and over say In All We Do/Say Seek to Honor God... so how is cursing that? And once again now somebody's gonna say "Jesus don't care about words he cares about the heart" but Jesus himself said "everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken, for by your words you will be acquitted and by your words you will be condemned" Matthew 12:36-37. and then he said "the things that come out of a person's mouth come from the heart" Matthew 15:18. So to Jesus, the heart and the mouth are not two separate things. They never were!!!!! And listen, cursing doesn't make you - not a Christian. Grace is real and habits are real. Some of us been talking a certain way our whole lives and that don't flip overnight and God understands that. And some of us are just going to do it because it's funny every once in a while. But the issue ain't the struggle, the issue is the excuse. Acting like scripture is cool with it when it clearly ain't!
