Are we sure? Amazon, Salesforce, Oracle, Atlassian, and IBM have all announced massive layoffs in 2025 & 2026 explicitly citing AI efficiency gains. Also 86% of enterprise leaders surveyed in early 2026 said their AI budgets are increasing.

My job got an ai phone receptionist. We're a smaller business and 99% of the time are able to answer the phone instantly. EVERYONE (patients and employees) complained about it. Huge waste of everyones time and when we FINALLY disconnected it, it messed up our phone system and the phone company had trouble fixing it but eventually did. Waste of money. Waste of everyones time. Waste of our patience.

I theorize that, after COVID, workers had bargaining power and getting higher wages. Corps didn’t like this, so they turned to AI, because if it works then good, and if not, they still scared the workforce and fired everyone so they could hire them back later, when ai fails, at lower wages.

This is a standard practice in the software world. Give people your product for free, wait for your competition to die off, and then charge people for something they now can't live without. Problem is the majority of people CAN and would rather go without even if it's inconvenient.

Was forced to use AI at work so I just timed myself doing the required task with ai and without. Took my half the time without having to argue with a robot on how to do something I already knew how to do 🥰
