Theres literally bothing wrong with his approach btw… his hands was guarding his face, his eyes never left his initial target, hos stance is proper and he stops rolling as soon as hes infront of the first person, the roll engage was to psych himself/ prep himself for ALOT of moving considering he wanted to dodge most attacks instead of get hit, cus he was gonna get jumped. And a stop kick would work on MOST approaches in combat… hence why the name is sometimes “Stop kick”

TBF that roll is a legitimate technique of closing distance in a BOXING MATCH. But as you've so eloquently pointed out, in a STREET FIGHT, a straight kick to the solar is going to end that fight before it starts. Personally I'd go for a sidestep and pivot into a mid roundhouse kick as I find it's less risky than trying to stop someone's forward momentum with a front kick. But you do you.👍
