People who think that Americans are so welcoming should remember that much of the German populace at the Olympics in 1936 were cordial and tolerant of Jesse Owens but still felt that he was inferior to them. Just because they aren’t being violent now doesn’t mean that their racism evaporated overnight. They were being cordial because they didn’t want to be internationally vilified.
