@npr: New data shows that starter homes in a record number of cities now cost $1 million or more.   New data from Zillow shows that 242 cities now have million-dollar entry-level homes — that’s three times as many as before the pandemic housing boom. Most places are in California, but the fastest growth is in New York and New Jersey. And million-dollar "starters" have also spread from the coasts to states like Texas, Wyoming and Illinois.   They're defined here as the lowest third of the market in a region.   Despite that, Zillow finds that, nationwide, the typical starter home is still a lot less — just under $200,000.   Check out NPR News Now wherever you listen to podcasts for more of today’s news.

It’s part of private equity buying up homes and jacking up the prices.

Not a housing shortage when companies are buying up thousands of homes to rent out or just leave empty…… they need to put rent caps on studios. A studio should not be over 900$ a month. My town in Colorado it’s 1300 for a studio that’s decent.
