Each company can choose to decide whether or not to make their employees work on any holidays. I personally work for a grocery store and we open 365 days a year. Federal holiday doesn’t mean companies are obligated to give that day off. Federal holidays are really only meant for public institutions to observe, like schools or courts.

My job has us work on every federal holiday. Only holidays we get off are thanksgiving and Christmas. Every other day we work. I’m not as federal worker so I’m not obligated to get the day off

I’m in Canada It isn’t guaranteed you have statutory holidays off, but if you work it you get holiday pay usually 1.5 times your wages, and an extra days pay or lieu day.

When I worked for a small business, we had mandatory bank holidays off. However it was taken out of our annual leave budgets.

you can make employees work on holidays. it's not against the law. people work on Christmas. people work on Easter. people work on every holiday.

Yeah, the judge is wrong employers choose which federal holidays they give off to their employees. They’re not federal employees.
