Katse Dam and associated dams augment live storage for vaal dam. Tugela vaal system augment dead storage of vaal dam. Operating rule is that you only release water from sterkfontein dam when vaal storage falls below 18%. Tugela pump storage system. Woodstock dam, driel barrage weir, canal system, jagersrust forebay, kilburn dam, eskom highlift, driekloof dam and then sterkfontein dam.

The Tugela-Vaal scheme also functions as a pumped storage scheme to generate electricity by pumping water from Kilburn dam (lower reservoir) up the Drakensberg mountain into Driekloof dam, which drains into Sterkfontein. This happens during lower electricity demand and the reverse happens to generate power during high power demand.

Can you please enlighten us on SANRAL Concessions 30 years contracts ( Tolled Highways) with Bakwena ( on N1 - PTA-Beitebridge & PTA- Mahikeng), TRAC ( N4 Pta-Lebombo Border), N3TC (N3 JHB-DBN) and N17 ( JHB- Ermelo) coming to an end in 2029. The contract was build( with their own money) , maintain and collect tolls ( to repay them). The question is: are we going to continue paying tolls??

I always tell people that we need to expand our water grid to NW, NC,EC, WC, POLOLOANE and MPUMALANGA so that should not allow rain water to go back to the ocean .....by building more storage dams and man made Lakes with a feedback/feedfoward system. if we can do that....lack of water in our country would be a thing of the past
