is it normal if you're neurological but sometimes get physically sick or nauseous if you consume a lot of content kf your fav media? Like, you get sore because of it and it makes you nervous

the cyclical fixations are so real because what do you mean this thing came back and ruled my brain for a week just for chiikawa to come take its place (I suspect the walking dead games may be next…)

The easiest way to tell if it’s a hyper fixation is actually if it ruins your life 😭

don't forget the AuDHD interests that are the same as autistic ones, we have special interests that go on for a lifetime and we are masters in, while also having the little hyperfixation ones that we often circle back to on the side.

just a reminder that special interests can be such a meaningful but also regular thing in your life that you don't even realize it is one, I've been drawing for 10 years and whenever I had a hyperfixation (which I basically CONSTANTLY have they just change over the span of like 2 weeks) my first instinct was to include it into my drawing and I was always so hyper focused on my hyperfixation I never realized literally all I would do and/or think about was drawing

what does it mean when you get a hyperfixation that lasts however long, ends, but you just can't get into anything else so you just keep interacting with the prior fixation to try to reignite the spark?

I'm AuDHD and I do that! I hyperfixate on a special interest for a certain amount of time, then leave it and after some time get back to it, hyperfixating again🤣 I've accepted my cyclical patterns and usually let the passion come and go as my brain needs it, but sometimes it's HARRRD. When I've been lovinnnng an embroidery project or a videogame for months and I'm sooo close to finishing it and I feel the spark fading it's almost mournful. It's like letting go of a part of myself, even though I know I'll get back to it at a later time, but meanwhile that part will have to wait in a box. Without feeling hyperfixated on something (a light hyperfixation pls, not an all consuming one🤣) the world loses a bit of colour, it looks more gray, more dull...

I always get insanely hyperfixated on a specific cartoon, video game, or musical for anywhere from a few months to, at most, two years. Then one day I completely lose interest and move on to the next thing. But while I'm obsessed, I learn everything. Every background character, every line of dialogue word-for-word. Show me a blurry & cropped screenshot and I'll tell you the exact episode and timestamp. It happens with languages too. When I was 15-16, I basically abandoned school so I could teach myself Japanese full-time until I became fluent. Then at some point, I somehow ended up diving into ancient Akkadian... and when I ran out of words and grammar to learn, I started trying to REVIVE it for modern use 😭 And yes, sometimes it gets really bad that I'd go 1-3 days without sleeping or food and lose sense of time.

i’m AuDHD and i kinda know immediately if this new thing is gonna be a fleeting hyperfixation or be promoted to a reoccurring special fixation. i also have special interests but they’re more umbrella terms. for example the occult is one of my constant special interests. so i’m likely to hyperfixate of shows and books that are related to my special interest but those stories themselves are not necessarily here to stay. unless they get promoted

what does it mean if I'm diagnosed with autism but barely experience special interests and have hyperfixations that last about half a year at a time? and like even when the special interest I do have, I interact with through hyperfixating on specific aspects of it (for specificity the only thing that's been long lasting enough for me to call a special interest is musical theatre, but even in that I tend to have more specific hyperfixations, like it's currently a specific subset of hungarian musical theatre that I'm hyperfixating on, ik that's very niche) I have no ADHD diagnosis and no one's suspected it in me except myself occasionally

is it possible to have specific interests or hyperfixations but not in the way you want to learn everything about a subject? For example I suspect having autism and/or ADHD for a few years now and I've always obsessed over things for short or long periods but never in the way that I want to know everything about it more in a way where I need to talk about it/watch the source it's coming from/interact with it in certain ways/create things that are related to the interest etc as a way to regulate I need to interact with it at least in some way everyday or even just sit and think about it for a time but i've never had the urge to make researches about a topic and know everything about ot

AuDHD here: yep, I circle through interests. I can get bored of something for a couple of months or years, but often it comes back eventually

I have a question. I have autism but I don’t have a special interest. My interests are more like hyper fixations. But I don’t have adhd (from what I know). So how does that work?

I hyper fixate on shows ive watched- burn out of it then hyperfix on it all over again every few momths or even weeks. I always end up rewatching over and over and im actually scared to watch new shows. I feel like its to much of a task and I really really enjoy watching things when i know what’s gonna happen it but once the hyperfixation is over i go to another show that ive watched and start the process over is that normal?

Can someone help me figure this out? From these descriptions my interests sort of sound more like those of an AuDHD individual, but at least as far as I know, I'm not autistic (I display traits of autism but I've always figured they just came attached with me having ADHD lol). I've had several interests that lasted me years and were pretty much at the core of my being, though they eventually burned out leaving me feeling a bit empty and missing when my life was very centered around those things, but I wouldn't necessarily say they were "life-long", though I do keep coming back to them occasionally and sporadically... idk what to think 😭🙏

I’m confused, I don’t have autism.. but ADHD then the slight bit of special interest Is me.. I get hyper fixation, but I always had that burnout afterwards I literally have written down what’s it’s like for me to get a hyper fixation.. do you think any of my other disability’s explain this or?? ( Adhd, odd, id, dyslexia, depression, anxiety? ) because generally speaking it’s like this ill comment bellow it
