There is an actual real difference and that he doesn’t know it is worrying. A lawyer is someone that has studied and graduated from law school. An attorney is someone that has passed the bar and can actually practice the law. All attorneys are lawyers but not all lawyers are necessarily attorneys.

Bar is designed for people to understand what someone knows about the law. An Attorney is someone who specialized in part of the law and restricts there practice to that. Lawyers on the other hand understand the scope of the law, how far could you go in a court.

Lawyers are not licensed to represent you in court or file any lawsuits or act on someone's behalf in formal legal proceedings. An Attorney can do all this what a lawyer cannot do but they do help out a lot.

Not really. The lawyer is someone who has completed a law degree—like a JD (Juris Doctor)—but they may not have passed the bar or be licensed to practice law in court. An attorney, on the other hand, is a lawyer who has passed the bar exam and is actively practicing law—so they can represent you in court and give legal advice.

the difference between a lawyer and an attorney in most states is that the lawyer does not have a license but an attorney does.
