Went to BLC in the winter at McCoy and my unit didn’t issue me any cold weather gear. Had to buy it myself to stay in the class. Totaled out to $5,250 dollars

Yep, that’s accurate. I’m sure I’m the only USAF guy in but we had what was called “the airman’s attic” on base, and if you needed uniforms, you could find some in decent shape. Sometimes you could get a deal, other times it was al just a bunch of faded crap.

This hit hard. I just dropped $400 on a blues jacket. I had to buy an officer one and get it tailored to turn it into enlisted because they never have anything above a size 4.

all the people acting like the allowance covers anything. you get 1 pt shirt and shorts and 1 t shirt jacket and 1 pair of pants to wear 5 to 7 days a week. and 1 washing machine for 60 guys. this is all militarybgrade, so the pants rip evertime you are in the field. your dress blues canmot have any sweat stains on the collar. while you stand in 100 degree heat on funeral duty. replacement shirt is $80. if you put on muscle and grow at all, you get to spend another $400 on new dress blues. out of pocket. average soldier spends $1500 out of pocket for uniform replacements on top of annual allowance. the first allowance is spent during basic to buy all of your clothes that are "issued".
