I’m so tired of everyday people thinking they know better than the professionals that design and build this sort of stuff

That was actually super cool. Thank you for the explanation. Sometimes its so neat to see just how much thought and engineering goes into these things. Really remarkable 😊

That whole explanation, comes down to the word ‘pedestrian’. The US doesn’t do pedestrian.

The question itself wasn't bad. It rarely is. Asking why the bridge is round when a straight line seems more efficient is a good question to ask. But the original post didn't ask it, they assumed their answer must be correct and the bridge is wrong. Replacing assumptions with curiosity is so easy and leads to interesting answers like this post.

Actually, in Uruguay we have both horizontal and vertical deflection bridges.

isn't it interesting that in the time it took for the OC to film that Oscar worthy reaction, he could've googled the answer himself

That’s why roundabouts are popping up everywhere in the US; less likely to have high speed crashes at intersections and allows safe pedestrian crossings

Designs have reason behind them, ESPECIALLY if it costs more money than doing it a different way. If you ever see something and go "now, why the hell is it made like THAT?", theres probably a reason behind it

its also creating more space for fishermen. straight lines take less material, so adding the curve causes more pedestians to be on the bridge at one time

How much content on Tik Tok wouldn't be necessary if they just Googled it? I'm sure some of these creators know better but play a role for likes and views.

Wait a minute wait a minute wait a minute. You mean to tell me that there are more effective ways of slowing down cars than plopping down to 35 mile an hour speed limit sign on what is clearly a miles long divided road with broad shoulders and no obstacles? Do you mean to tell me that the design of our physical infrastructure has an effect on the way that motorists use it? Do you have a number that somebody can call? Because it seems like the traffic designers in my area haven’t gotten the memo.
