Did you actually text them and invite them? Or did they just get the automated partiful text blast after you added their contact info? IMO I think it’s so rude nowadays that people just send these automated party invites without reaching out via phone call, text, or seeing eachother in person and mentioning it. Partiful becomes a layer of abstraction to true friendship and community. Back in the day when my family would plan a party, my mom would spend the next hour calling people, having a quick chat and inviting them, or leaving a sweet voicemails. I don’t take seriously a text blast partiful invite, without the host directly inviting me. (similar to how Facebook events used to be).

Honestly just etiquette period, people shouldn’t have to be told “show up if you say you’re going to,” regardless of if it’s on an app or a physical invite or whatever. Even if you show up late, tired, and awkward, at least you showed up.

5-10 people didn’t show up to my birthday last year, and they all RSVP’d yes. Few of them simply just forgot about it. Lmao. Huh???

I don’t understand people who think Partiful invites aren’t “real”. Someone had to really think about you and really look you up and really select you and really send the invite. And in turn, you REALLY had to select yes or maybe or no. Huh???

Hi gal I’m so sorry to hear this…. people are SO rude and inconsiderate. They don’t know what goes into party planning and the financial and emotional investment that people put into an event. If we were friends I’d 100% show up for you ❤️you’ve done nothing wrong

This has bothered me too, I try to update my rsvp if I know i can’t go after saying yes, but I stopped using partiful for my events because I noticed I’d keep track of who did and didn’t come. I’m leaning into the plain old party flier and letting people surprise me :-/ I’m so sorry you were disappointed 🫂

I have been doing a NYC anniversary party annually and this year had the worst showing with the most people invited. I’m definitely in the same boat as you, I don’t want to host ever again.

At my old job I had the reverse of this. Every year I planned our holiday party and sent out a formal invite to every single employee. The instructions were clear respond to the invite if you can go or not. When it came down to the follow up, I would send an email and say please respond to the invite that was sent not to this email. People would respond to my email and I would ask them to please respond to the invite because that's how we were getting the headcount. When the final number was needed, people were not RSVPing. Their reasoning was and I quote "I work here so why wouldn't I go to the holiday party?" and my response was "just because you got a wedding invite doesn't mean you're owed a seat if ya don't rsvp"

This happened to me for my bday! 32 RSVPed, about half showed up. Had so much food, cake, had to pay the remainder of the bar minimum. And regardless of the money and energy spent, it was just disappointing expecting to celebrate with people and getting a no call no show. Sorry that happened to you! 🫶🏾

omg been saying this w my friends and other ppl who host for the community, we’re in such a weird time where it feels like people would rather build up all their plans and then pick and choose. feeling like apps like partiful make u feel better about getting an invite than actually hosting an event :( sorry this happened to u queen
