I literally can’t grasp what you’re saying. Like I hear the words, I’ve seen Interstellar, I just can’t grasp the science of it all. lol.

So basically i could kind of live forever. If i kept going at the speed of light.

It wouldn’t be instantaneous it would take two years for you in the space ship but for the people on earth 2 million years would have passed.

time dilation is accounted for in GPS satellites, so it's relevant every time you use maps on your phone

That's completely wrong, if you travel at the speed of light to andromeda galaxy it would still takes you 2.5mln years to get there, because light takes that time going 300.000km/s to go from Andromeda to us and viceversa, the only way known to us to get there in 1 second or less it's warp drive, curving the space time itself

In interstellar time dilation is not caused by speed, but by a very strong gravitational pull.

So she's like... partially right? The theory of velocity time dilation is that the faster you get to the speed of light the slower time moves for you. But there's also gravitational time dilation and regular time dilation. The first sentence she said is where she lost me and I had to fact check. Andromeda (nearest galaxy to us) is 2.5 million light-years away. A light year is how long it takes travelling at the speed of light. Meaning if you were to travel there at the speed of light it would take 2.5 million years. The theory of velocity time dilation has not been proven to the extent that she says. It might not feel like the blink of an eye. It might, but there's nothing to say you wouldn't die LONG before you got out of the milky way. Proxima Centauri (closest star other than the Sun to us) is 4.25 light-years away and much more likely to have you experience the kind of time dilation she's talking about if you could travel to it.

gravity also affects time dilation. so when you're just standing up, your toes age slower than your head. at a very very very small scale, if that wasn't obvious.

no it wouldn't lol, it would still take the amount of time that it takes light to travel. She's so so wrong

this is why in project hail mary, on the ship itself it only took 4 years to get to tau ceti, but on earth it took roughly 11 years for the hail mary to get there
