*in the northern hemisphere. Polaris is not visible in the southern hemisphere. Which wouldn’t be the case on a flat earth. Stars “appear” to rotate around Polaris because Polaris appears directly overhead at the North Pole and the earth rotates about its own axis. As for why the stars don’t change in the night sky, the Sun is orbiting the center of the Milky Way, as is every other star in the night sky. The Sun takes 250 million years to complete a full orbit around the Milky Way which means distance the Sun has traveled in human history is very small on a galactic scale and the stars are so far away that it makes no visible difference.

Thuban was the pole star before, it wasn’t always polaris. The earth’s axial tilt shifted at some point. We are most likely spinning on a giant potato im sorry if that unsettles u, but the entire universe is in constant motion not just our solar system if that makes u feel better
