I like what you did…but a new opportunity emerges as an obligation to start a bed of coals to season the grates with oil…it helps protect from rust (next time)

I usually clean out the debris and light a hot precook fire to burn off all the residual lighter fluid. I use the Kingsford perforated foil sheets to cook on. I will not cook directly on the installed grates, no matter how "clean".
