@coralakey: Replying to @moragmond One thing nobody talks about when you get divorced is how many unspoken rules there are in online dating. Do I put “divorced” on my profile? When do I bring it up? Is it something I should disclose right away or wait until it comes up naturally? #DatingAfterDivorce #StartingOver #datingapps #DatingAdvice #LifeAfterDivorce
A divorce is a legal breakup. If they don’t want to be with someone who has had a breakup… there’s a bigger problem

Lo :
I’ve lived 5 lives since my divorce and moved states twice. My friends and coworkers don’t even know my current husband is my second husband because it *doesn’t matter*

Actually divorced? Don’t care. Still legally married? Yes, disclose immediately. Kids: disclose, though don’t need to share details on profile.

Seth Lawrence :
Disclosing kids is way more important. If it was a shorter marriage it’s probably not that relevant considering many people date for years without marriage and it’s not a big deal.

I’ve been divorced for 30 years and haven’t seen my ex in 29. At what point am I just single again?
I’ve been divorced twice because I was cheated on both times. It’s embarrassing enough but then to be judged for it sucks 😞

My ex husband was abusive and turned out to be gay and left me to go have sex with men in Miami. I refuse to be ashamed. It’s ridiculous to have a blanket no divorce rule with no context.

I bring it up naturally based on when I ask the question of “why did your last relationship end and what did it teach you?” And usually I get a good response and engages a deep conversation that results in a “what about yourself” and then I tell them I’m divorced and why and what I learned from it

The point of going on dates is to get to know people. The fact that people think they know someone from just a profile is crazy. No you don’t have to put it on your profile. Yes it makes sense for it to come up in the first 3 dates maybe as you get to know each other. No that’s not stringing someone along

Honestly so many people have had a starter marriage these days and I don’t think that should come with urgency or pressure or shame when you start dating someone. With romantic partners it comes up in the stage where you naturally ask about past relationships.

“Totally outside of your control” is so true. Idk. I had the misfortune of marrying young to a serial cheater. Is it really a marriage if you’re the only one in it? Why am I stuck dealing with the consequences of someone else’s choices?

I don’t put it on my profile. It’s not a strangers business. After a few dates if I know we’re actually compatible and we know each other at least a little bit, then it’s brought up. People break up after being together 8 years, do they need to advertise that as well???

I’m a stranger on the internet. I’m not obligated to disclose anything to you about my past or history. If you have a dealbreaker like that it’s on you to ask me upfront.

I think your experience is a good reason to reveal you’re divorced honestly, if someone is going to demean you because of it, it’s good to know that and not waste your time. But also you don’t owe strangers your life story so I think you should do whatever makes you feel comfortable and safe.

I saw the video this comment was attached to and honestly I think your approach is fine? Like a clean divorce (no kids, no contact, etc) doesn’t need to be mentioned on a profile, but disclosing sooner rather than later helps both parties move forward. You shouldn’t be with someone who wouldn’t handle that information with care and if it matters that much to the other person then they can exit with grace.

im remarried and was technically still married when I was officially divorced, but if I was still in the dating pool I would just wonder why they need to know about a relationship from 10 years ago? We had no kids, we have no ties, and I havent seen him in a decade? Thats something id disclose when we decide to be serious, not only the first few dates

When do you guys disclose having kids? On the profile? During the first interaction? During the first date?
