This is standard in Europe. Not necessarily 7 weeks. Some have a year, my dad has 3 months. And not necessarily need to work, you can fire but with the pay of those weeks notice

Also, this is purely an American thing. Many countries, about 150 of them require you to notice your employees that you’re firing them, provide a legitimate reason with proof why, and give them severance pay.

When I tried to give a two weeks notice at a company that was very very very insistent on always getting a two weeks notice, they fired me on the spot.

I actually made a company give me in writing 2 months notice before firing me and the owner had no idea about it so when he tried firing me I told him if he didn’t honor my 2 months notice I would sue for more the the company was worth

it's strange.. every company where i worked, had a two week notice... both ways.. it is in contract, at the start, without asking.. I just.. Maybe it's just smth in my country, but my friends and family also have same experience...
