Agility and coordination aren’t built with one exercise. But drills like these can be a great addition to your program when used for the right purpose. I don’t use them to make athletes faster overnight. I use them to improve coordination, rhythm, body control and the quality of ground contacts while preparing the nervous system for the work ahead. These drills are most often included at the beginning of the session or as part of the warm-up before field training. My athletes consistently tell me they feel more reactive, more coordinated and ready to move at higher speeds. 1. Quick Feet In-Out – coordination and fast ground contacts 2. Lateral Quick Feet – lateral footwork and body control 3. Single Leg Hops – reactive strength and single-leg stiffness The real speed work still comes from: • sprinting • strength training • plyometrics • change of direction training These drills don’t replace that work. They help prepare athletes to perform it better.
