Bad take. While there are a few scenes that are improvements in the first few seasons, the shorwrunnners completely fell off after or around season 4. They didn’t run out of books, they just decided not to adapt books 4 and 5 and the show was far worse for it. There’s so much heart and thematic depth missing from the show as compared to the text

It’s hard to compare when some of the best parts of the story (battle of bastards, beyond the wall, hardhome, etc) isn’t in the books. The political thriller (90% of GoT tbf) is better written in the books. I think most of the comments are larping saying this is a crazy take. The books are great but they’re not LoTR, they aren’t be default better.

I fundamentally disagree, but the show did shine in the moments that couldn’t be shown in the books due to the first person character pov structure of the books. But there are also great lines from the books that were missed in the show such as the broken man speech or the north remembers speech.

I don't like this take, no one disagrees that the show made a good amount of things just better than the book, but for every good change there're like 30 bad ones with huge negative consequences down the line. Viserys in HOTD is 30x better then book Viserys but HOTD also removed so much ambiguity that the story is just worst.

The first seasons did improve a lot of the story and expanded plots in a way that made sense, that’s why the show became such a hit back then. But when they ran out of source material, things went downhill FAST.

You are talking about filler dialog that improves characterization. GRRM is talking about plot and characters changed without good reason when show makers just want to "make it their own". Find us some good improvements from later seasons of GOT if you want to counterpoint him.

This is the only take you've dropped which is just wrong. I do agree with you regarding several scenes being better handled in the series. But overall.... nope.... No comparison. A few good moments don't trump the entire book series.
