I think judges do have their favorite programs that they’ve judged through the seasons and they score high even if they aren’t so good. But mad respect to the judges, they have a hard job

One coach I really love pulled parents together once and said, YOU are emotionally invested in your child. You aren’t looking for bent knees, flexed feet, all the little things but the judges are. The only way judges can distinguish bw 2 clean teams with the same difficulty level is the little things, you don’t see it but they do. She also taught parents about how scoring works. About how some skills score higher than others, etc. then she would go over the videos from practice with the girls & parents and point out where deductions could be. I think most parents don’t understand cheer scoring and that leads to hurt feelings.

I judge school cheer tryouts sometimes and I always take the extra time to make sure all my scores are fair but also that they make sense! But I couldn’t even imagine doing a competition 😵💫
