As a delivery driver his reaction is valid for the most part. You never know a specific dogs tells and you don’t know if they have a bite history or if they have been trained to protect their property. In the dogs eyes your a stranger at their house and you don’t know till it’s to late if it’s a “oh new friend “ reaction or a “intruder must protect family” reaction. I’ve met dogs that respect boundaries and it made my job so much easierrrrr

I was bitten three times by a Jack Russell in the same evening after being told he was friendly. My husband was bitten twice by a St. Bernard. Introductions may not help. Most pits I've been in contact with are friendly. My current dog is territorial - a cattle dog - aloof and if you know body language he's easy to figure out & just ignore him. He doesn't want & has no dog or people friends.

I just don’t answer my door anymore, if you didn’t call and tell me you’re coming you have no business knocking on my door. It’s not safe to open your door to strangers and I teach my dog to bark at the dang window when people do knock to let them know this ain’t the house to pick for nonsense, and my dog stays safely inside where he belongs.

No, I hate when people don’t understand dogs can be scary for some people. I don’t like big dogs at all. I’m scared of them and I’m a dog owner. The only dog I’m not scared is my 45lbs Goldendoodle. She doesn’t bite, she doesn’t bark at people but if she does not respect my commands (which she mostly do) when people come over my house after I give her commands I always put her on her kennel or the office so she learns she is not in charge.
