Before spending the money and effort on this, make sure you understand that plants need their natural way of growth (good ol dirt, compost from rotting leaves etc, and clean rain water) to produce fruits and vegetables that are going to taste normal. I ate several veggies from a grow tower that never used dirt and everything tasted almost completely bland like the flavor had been removed but the veggie looked amazing. Just so y'all know.

I found a giant plastic pot in the NYC trash bought some soil from the hardware store and bought 6 cherry tomato starts. It’s now 7 feet tall. And it’s only June. I am going to need to pray to Castoffia the goddess of NYC trash to send me taller stakes for these monsters.

I've been doing this method for about 3 years and its actually my preferred method, as my vegetables, using this method, are thriving even with high heat.

You should put a small hole in the top and connect a little pole/stick with like a flag on the top and have a marker that says refell, and then you can put a little pool noodle on the bottom, and so it will go up and down with the water level.

If you don’t have an air pump, then you’ll need to leave at least a 2 inch gap once the air roots grow in, and not submerge all of the roots. Look up kratky method.

If you grow your own seedlings it’s cheaper on top of that aaaaand you can grow them in rock wool and just put them straight into the pool noodles without removing the wool :) also if you grow your own seedlings you can also do microgreens while you’re at it ^^
